Dear Member of the Enlightened Minority,

How can Nightwing be both a vigilante and a police officer?

This to me would appear to be a conflict of interest.

PLEASE HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND THIS QUANDRY...... ,

I have been trying to find some books worth spending my hard earned money on and so far I am just finding a series of mediocre high gloss non sense...

Before I launch into a tirade, let me point out some of the JEWELS, that are hiding amongst the garbage:

  • I just read KIN #1 by Gary Frank and I am waiting for the next issue...A+
  • The JSA, still worth the dough ...B+
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL has turned out to be a very entertaining read for my dollar...B+
  • BATMAN:DARK VICTORY is shaping up to be something of a worthwhile read ...B
  • The AVENGERS is usually amazing, but this last fill in issue was very sub par ...C-
  • THE AUTHORITY is still a great book ...A
  • THE BAT BOOKS have been really cool and I am even starting to like the weird orange tone,
  • TOP TEN, TOM STRONG, PLANETARY, and one day the LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN are big time should reads.
  • There are also a few vertigo books that I have found to be intriguing like: THE HORSEMEN and PROPOSITION PLAYER to name a few.

    I may also have forgotten to mention one or two gems, but for the most part I think that these are about the only worthwhile reads that I have run across, BUT IF YOU KNOW OF SOME OTHERS PLEASE LET ME KNOW, , and be sure to let me know why you think that this is a worthwhile read.

    Everything else bears the MARK OF MEDIOCRITY... , and if you buy it, either you're just continuing your run, tossing away money, or you're just not a very discriminating shopper, not that there is anything wrong with being a non-discriminating shopper, I mean somebody has got to buy the book until it gets better. Some books that are now proudly sporting the MARK OF MEDIOCRITY... are:

  • Flash...Dark Flash ...O.K.
  • Titans... What is this a comic book based on some "Prime Time Kids Who Have No Problems, But Insist That They Do" type show...
  • JLA and all JLA-related titles ... Especially Wonder Woman ...Who hasn't been the same since the Demi-god of Comics gave her only two stars on her uniform (to make her easier to draw).
  • Iron Man Let's reveal his secret identity...O.K. What a cop out. Why not come up with something just a little bit more challenging as a writer?
  • The Spider-man Books and the Superman Books are just being written with such a disregard for the characters that I think that they should just kill them and make clones of them.
  • The X-Books... Please hurry up and bring on Warren Ellis

    So, are you all afraid to write me because you can't type in lowercase...

    Dont be afraid... Let me hear what you think about the state of comics, even if it is typed in all caps...O.K.
